Meet Harry L. Dougherty Jr. D.D.S., M.S.
Orthodontist in Sherman Oaks
Dr. Dougherty is originally from the San Fernando Valley, and feels a great connection with the Sherman Oaks community where he has lived and worked for over 30 years. He looks forward to working with each of his patients, and relishes helping them create one-of-a-kind treatment experiences. Dr. Dougherty received his degree and certification in Orthodontics from the University of Southern California. He began his career in Orthodontics in Santa Monica, and wanting to be more involved in his community, moved his practice to Sherman Oaks. In addition to excellence in clinical practice in his office, Dr. Dougherty is involved in many facets of Orthodontics. He currently teaches courses in diagnosis and treatment planning, computer assisted facial analysis, as well as being a faculty advisor at the bi-monthly USC Orthognathic surgical conferences. He has taught at Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC for over 10 years and recently received an award for excellence in teaching. He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, and the current president of the Edward H. Angle Society, Southern California Component. His research interests involve computer diagnosis and CAD-CAM orthodontic appliance design. Dr. Dougherty recently has been published in the American Journal of Orthodontics(AJO-DO). He lives in Sherman Oaks with his wife Pam and his son Ryan, who recently graduated from the University of Oregon.
Dr. Dougherty works diligently outside of his own practice with some of the best organizations in the dental community. These organizations contribute treatment to people in developing countries and educate doctors all over the world on new treatment methods and advancements in the field.

American Association Of Orthodontists
The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) is a professional association of educationally qualified orthodontic specialists dedicated to advancing the art and science of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, improving the health of the public by promoting quality orthodontic care, and supporting the successful practice of orthodontics. Eight constituent organizations exist throughout the United States and Canada. AAO members must meet the educational requirements of the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association in order to become a specialist in orthodontics. AAO members must have at least two academic years of advanced education in an accredited program.
American Dental Association
Founded in 1859, the not-for-profit American Dental Association is the nation’s largest dental association, representing more than 157,000 dentist members. Since then, the ADA has grown to become the leading source of oral health related information for dentists and their patients. The ADA is committed to its members and to the improvement of oral health for the public.
American Board Of Orthodontics
A board certified orthodontist is committed to the highest level of patient care including a comprehensive treatment approach to ensure quality work. And board certified orthodontists must re-new their certification every 10 years to demonstrate their continuous commitment to excellence.
Angle Society
The Angle Orthodontist is the official publication of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists and is published bimonthly by The EH Angle Education and Research Foundation. Dr. Dougherty is currently the president of the Southern California Component of the Angle Society.
Publications
Dr. Dougherty’s work has been published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, AJO-DO 2014, and the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontics, PCSO Journal 2012, 2013, and 2015.
The publication in the AJO-DO is basic research to evaluate how tooth movement can be assessed with the most advanced imaging technology that is currently available. This peer reviewed journal is read by over 8000 Orthodontists in the United States and Canada, and is the standard for Orthodontic publications worldwide.
The case reports in the PCSO Journal are an extension of his teaching at USC. He presents these reports to help other Orthodontists think through the process of Orthodontic diagnosis, treatment planning, and Orthodontic appliance selection. They show before and after treatment, discuss the how’s and why’s of treatment with the goal of teaching others, and improving their clinical skills.

Meet Dr. Eric Budiman D.D.S., M.S.
Orthodontist in Sherman Oaks
Dr. Budiman is a Los Angeles native who grew up in the city of Walnut. He received his certification in Orthodontics and his master’s degree from the University of Southern California where he studied under Dr. Dougherty’s instruction. Upon graduating, he was awarded the 2015 Harry L. Dougherty Award for Clinical Excellence, which is an award given to the resident who demonstrated the highest achievement in clinical orthodontics during the residency program. After graduation, Dr. Budiman moved to Seattle, Washington and became a clinical instructor at the University of Washington, teaching early and interceptive orthodontic treatment. Two years later, he moved back to Los Angeles to work in private practice and teach at USC’s orthodontic program. He currently teaches 3D scanning, virtual orthodontic model setups, and 3D printing. Dr. Budiman is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, and is the treasurer of the USC Orthodontic Alumni Association.
